Owner-led businesses
Know where marketing investment should go before you commit it.
We help established owner- and founder-led businesses assess their options, test assumptions and decide where marketing deserves time and budget.
You probably don't need more marketing options
The activity may be delegated. The decision still comes back to you.
You may have people managing the website, campaigns and content without anyone overseeing the overall marketing direction.
A new supplier or project can add more activity without resolving what the business needs most.
You need to judge the options against your commercial objectives, not just the merits of each proposal.
We provide the independent analysis to help you decide what is worth commissioning and what can wait.
When we are useful
Bring us in when the next move isn’t obvious.
You’re considering a major investment.
Before commissioning a website, campaign or repositioning, assess the problem it needs to solve and whether the proposal addresses it.
You want to reach a new market or customer group.
We examine demand, customer expectations and competing offers to assess what would need to change before you invest in acquisition.
Marketing has grown without an agreed plan.
We assess how existing activity and suppliers support your objectives, identifying what to keep, change or stop.
You’re deciding where additional budget should go.
We compare the case for further investment with the case for improving what is already in place.
You know something needs to change, but not what.
We examine the offer, customer response and current performance before assuming another campaign or website is the answer.

Why independent analysis matters
Your priorities come before any implementation proposal.
We assess the evidence and recommend what is needed before discussing what we could deliver.
That may mean improving what is already in place, using another specialist or not spending more. Delivery and any coordination or oversight are optional and scoped separately.
What we examine
We examine what your marketing needs to support.
We connect evidence from five areas to understand what is influencing performance. The agreed decision determines how deeply we examine each.
The priority may be to change the offer before promoting it.

Business
Your growth objectives, resources and constraints — and the role marketing needs to play.
Offer
The value customers get, how the offer differs and which products or services warrant greater emphasis.
Market
Evidence of demand, competitors’ positioning and the conditions that affect your opportunity to grow.
Customers
Who buys, what influences their choice and what may prevent suitable customers from taking the next step.
Marketing
What current activity contributes, how reliably it is measured and what the evidence suggests should change.
What you leave with
A written report to guide the decisions and work ahead.

Findings
What the evidence shows about performance, opportunities and the factors limiting progress.
Priorities
What to address first, what depends on other changes and what can be put on hold.
Recommendations
Practical actions and an implementation brief for the agreed priorities, giving your team or suppliers the objectives and requirements for delivery.
Rationale
The evidence, assumptions and trade-offs behind each recommendation, including where more information is needed.
Strategy engagement fit
We start by making sure the engagement is useful to you.
Usually a strong fit
- An established owner- or founder-led business.
- A decision with meaningful time, budget or opportunity at stake.
- Evidence gaps or competing options that need examining.
- Access to business information and a willingness to test assumptions.
A full strategy engagement may not be needed
- You’re still establishing the basic offer or demand.
- You already know what needs doing and only need delivery.
- The commitment is small and straightforward to reverse.
- You already have enough evidence and expertise to make the decision.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
How do we tell whether our current marketing is working?
Start with the commercial result the activity is meant to support, then examine the customers it reaches, the enquiries it creates and what happens before a sale. Channel reports can be useful, but they rarely explain the full picture on their own. We bring the available evidence together to identify what is contributing, what is unclear and what needs investigating.
Should we invest in a new website, advertising or another channel?
That depends on the problem you need to solve. A new website will not fix an unclear offer, and more advertising may amplify a weak customer journey. We look at the business, offer, customers, market and current marketing before recommending where additional investment has the strongest case. The answer may be to improve something you already have.
Can we work together if we do not have an in-house marketing team?
Yes. You will need someone who understands the business and can take part in the strategic session and decision. We can assess the marketing you already have, including work delivered by external suppliers, and recommend what should happen next. The report can also help you decide which capability you need to deliver it.
